Jason Christensen - River Ranger

CCCB full-time employee since 2000. Jason's duties include patrolling and maintaining county areas, especially those along the North Raccoon River. The variety of the work he does and being outdoors is what Jason enjoys most about his job. Jason is a 2001 Graduate of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fisheries & Wildlife Biology from Iowa State University. In his spare time Jason fishes, hunts, and likes to landscape.


John Danner - Swan Lake Ranger

CCCB full-time employee since 2000. John assists in the upkeep of county areas and enforces conservation regulations. John also helps supervise seasonal employees and volunteers. John holds an Associate of Science Degree in Conservation Technology from Ellsworth Community College and is a 2001 Iowa Law Enforcement Academy graduate. John likes to fish, hunt, trap, lift weights, jog and bike.


Matt Wetrich - County Naturalist

CCCB full time employee since 2007. Matt serves as the CCCB’s direct contact for environmental education programs, summer camps, and nature talks. Matt graduated from Iowa State University. His hobbies include birding, spending time with his wife, and just being outdoors.


Valerie Hucka - Office Manager

CCCB full time employee since 1997. Valerie serves as the CCCB's direct contact for shelter reservations, questions regarding camping, and other general information. Valerie also manages the concession stand and coordinates volunteers for Education Center. Valerie is involved in her church and bible study. She enjoys spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Her hobbies include scrapbooking and playing games with her family.


Denny Lawler - Operations Superintendent

CCCB full-time employee since 1991. As the Operations Superintendent, Denny is in charge of over-seeing the day to day upkeep of facilities and areas managed by the CCCB. Denny also serves as supervisor for seasonal and full time maintenance staff. Attended DMACC in Carroll. Denny’s hobbies include making use of his quadrunner and restoring antique automobiles.


Mark River - Executive Director

CCCB full-time employee since 2004. Mark is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Conservation Department as well as planning budgets and making recommendations to the Board. Mark has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University and a M.S. in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana. Mark enjoys a variety of outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, hiking, mushrooming, bird watching, astronomy, and canoeing.


Bill Van Zuiden - Park Ranger

CCCB full time employee since 1992. Bill provides security to park visitors and helps to maintain the recreational areas within the county. Bill also assists in the training and supervising of seasonal staff & volunteers. Bill holds a B.S. Degree in Wildlife Ecology & Conservation, with a minor in Biology, from Northwest Missouri State University and is a 1993 Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Graduate. Hobbies include hunting, fishing and spending time with family.


Amy Atherley - Associate Naturalist

CCCB part-time employee since 2005. Amy is responsible for booking and installing artist exhibits, creating many of the Education Center displays, and also conducting some of the Ed Center's programs, including Caterpillar Camp. Amy holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an English major from the University of South Dakota and is currently working on her masters. In her free time she paints and spends time with her children.
