The shelterhouse at Great Western Park in Manning is open year-round with heat during the winter. Restrooms are located outside the shelterhouse and are open year-round as well (heated during the winter). The shelterhouse offers a nice view overlooking a 12 acre lake and the picturesque town of Manning. A 3/4 mile paved trail around the lake is just a few steps from the shelterhouse, as is a playground for youngsters (and those of us that aren't so young).

Ample parking is available for all your guests. A boat ramp is available if you're in the mood for fishing or exploring the lake.

Picnic tables are provided, seating up to 60 people. Several concrete benches outside the shelter can seat additional folks during nice weather. A small kitchen area with a sink, oven, and refrigerator is available. Electrical outlets are spaced throughout the shelter.

The shelterhouse rents for $45 from April-Oct and $55 from Nov-March. Non-profit organizations receive a discounted rental rate. A $50 refundable clean-up deposit is required. Shelters are rented for all day. You can begin setting up at 5am, and must vacate the premises by 10pm.

Please call the conservation office at (712) 792-4614 for additional information or if you would like to see the shelterhouse in person.
